| Buyback Textbooks are unique. There aren't too many items that you can purchase, use for months, and then sell back to the store for cash. HPU Bookstore will pay 50% of the current new price for books we need for upcoming terms. Once we reach our limit on a title or if we don't need a particular book we will, as an additional service, try to purchase your books for national used-book wholesalers. These wholesalers generally pay 10% - 40% of the current new price for your books. Some of the things that affect the price offered for your book are the condition of the book, the bookstore's stock level, instructor will or will not use the book or is undecided, the national demand for the book, and the status of new editions. There are several reasons why we may not buy back your book: The condition of the book is too poor (falling apart, missing pages, or has answers written inside). It is an old edition (to keep books current and relevant publishers will revise and update books periodically). Or there is a low demand for that title (HPU Bookstore doesn't need any more copies and the national demand for the book is low). Hawaii Pacific University Bookstores conducts several buybacks throughout the year. Most of the buybacks are held at the downtown location. In May and December, the windward Hawaii Loa location also conducts a buyback and, periodically, selected military campus locations will hold a buyback. The buybacks are normally held at or near the end of a term. At this time you will need to sell your books to us in person.
